With rate on historic low, it is easy to understand why so many homeowners opt to refinance their mortgage. It really makes sense: low rate means low monthly payment — it doesn’t get any clearer than that. But the thing is, there is more to this statement than most people who want to ride the bandwagon understand. You see, refinancing your mortgage when the prevailing rate is lower than the current rate you pay for your existing loan may give you enough savings, but lenders will not give it to you on a silver platter. You have to want it, search for it and demand for it.

Refinancing may seem to be a wise move at the moment, but don’t forget that rates are not the only thing that matters. Since you are extending your loan, evaluate your current standing well. If you are confident to take it, then take the move and get the rate that you deserve.
